Visitor Requirements

All visitors are required to present a government-issued photo ID when checking in.

Curatorial Viewing Appointments Required

Any member or non-member desiring to view parts of the numismatic vault collection is required to schedule an appointment with the curator overseeing the relevant portion of the collection, stating the purpose of the visit and the exact items they wish to view. Please email us at curatorial@numismatics.org to schedule an appointment.

Visitors are limited in terms of access at the ANS premises, the items they can have with them in the curatorial viewing room, and are subject to electronic and in-person surveillance. Note that curatorial visits are typically limited to two hours per day.

The ANS maintains a small exhibition space of three cases in which the history of money as well as some new acquisitions are on display. For more extensive display of ancient and Byzantine coins owned by the ANS, visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Visiting the Library

It is helpful if you make an appointment to use the library, although not required. Unscheduled visitors to the library will not be allowed to enter between the hours of 12:30 and 1:30 pm. To make an appointment for the library, please email library@numismatics.org.

Visitors may also set up curatorial and library appointments by calling our membership offices at (212) 571-4470, ext. 117.

On-street, metered parking is very limited on Varick Street, but there are local parking garages within walking distance. We recommend arriving by public transportation or taxi.

Upon entering 75 Varick Street (also called One Hudson Square), go to the reception desk, present your government-issued photo ID, and tell the receptionist that you are visiting the American Numismatic Society. They will give you a visitor pass that you must wear during your visit. Take the elevator to the 11th floor and proceed to the guard station at the American Numismatic Society to check in.
