Planned Giving

Ensure the future of the ANS through your bequest.

Bequests have a significant impact on the ability of the Society to meet the needs of today and to plan confidently for the future. Many ANS members and other enthusiasts of numismatics have made bequests to the Society of cash or other property.

By naming the ANS in your will, you join the dedicated group known as the Julius Korein Legacy Circle. The Legacy Circle was established in honor of Dr. Julius Korein, who assembled the world’s greatest collection of Gobrecht dollars. He left this collection to the Society in his will in what became one of the most significant bequests in ANS history. The Society recognizes that all planned gifts express a lifetime commitment to the ANS: membership in the Legacy Circle is perpetual and has no minimum gift requirement.

Your planned gift strengthens our ability to advance the study and appreciation of numismatics for future generations. For more information please contact our Development Department at 212 571-4470 ext. 116 or plannedgiving@numismatics.org, or mail in the form below.

Planned Giving Opportunities

In-kind gift

An in-kind gift is a non-monetary contribution of personal property, typically to the collection or the library. Such donations permit the ANS collection to grow in quality and size.

Specific bequest

A specific bequest is one in which you leave the ANS a specified amount in money, appreciated assets, or property.

Residual bequest

A residual bequest is one in which you provide the ANS with all or a percentage of the remaining assets in your estate after all expenses have been paid and all specific bequests are honored.

Charitable remainder trust

A charitable remainder trust provides fixed or variable income to meet your specific financial needs, at the termination of which the remaining assets are passed on to the ANS.

Charitable lead trust

A charitable lead trust provides income to the ANS for a specified period of years, after which the trust property typically reverts to the donor’s heirs. A Retained Life Interest, which enables you to make a gift of your residence to the ANS, reserves for you the right to use the property for the balance of your life.

IRA charitable rollover

The IRA Charitable Rollover allows individuals over age 72 to directly transfer up to $100,000 per year from an IRA account to one or more charities. This transfer counts toward the minimum required distribution rule for IRA accounts, and such distributions are free of both income and estate taxes.

The Julius Korein Legacy Circle

In 2009, Dr. Julius Korein, for whom our Legacy Circle is named, bequeathed to the Society his magnificent and unparalleled collection of United States pattern dollars of the late 1830s by famed engraver Christian Gobrecht. With the support of his family, Dr. Korein made the decision to donate his collection to the ANS as a benefit for posterity. Upon Dr. Korein’s death, his collection was transferred to the ANS and is now accessible to collectors and researchers alike. Here it provides future generations with a rich resource for further study for many years to come.

The Julius Korein Legacy Circle was established to honor those who, like Dr. Korein, have made a bequest that enables the study and public appreciation of numismatics for future generations. The Society is pleased to receive any such donation, and recognizes that all planned gifts express a lifetime commitment to the ANS, which is why membership in the Legacy Circle is perpetual and has no minimum gift requirement.
