Richard Abdy’s Roman Imperial Coinage Wins the first Collier Prize
In 2020, Carole Anne Menzi Collier established the Collier Prize in Ancient Numismatics. The Prize was inaugurally awarded to Richard Abdy’s Roman Imperial Coinage Vol.II.3 on the coinage of the Emperor Hadrian from AD 117 to 138 (Spink, 2020) on October 23, 2021. More…

Upcoming Long Tables
In December, the weekly ANS Long Table will include an overview of the ANA’s Edward C. Rochette Money Museum with Curator and Museum Director Douglas Mudd; a discussion of coin deposits in ancient synagogues in late antique Palestine with archaeologist and ANS Summer Seminar alumna Tine Rassalle; and an examination of the coinage of Hadrian with Martin Beckmann, Director of the Centre for Ancient Numismatics at McMaster University.
November in Review
Member’s Breakfast
Thanks to the support of an anonymous donor, the ANS held a breakfast for members at the 2021 Whitman Baltimore Winter Expo on November 19. We were pleased to welcome over forty members and their guests who enjoyed a delicious breakfast, met with fellow members, and heard a brief presentation by Executive Director Gilles Bransbourg, Assistant Curator of American Numismatics Jesse Kraft, and ANS Trustee Michael Beall.
Lucia Carbone Presented at the University of Virginia
On November 10, Assistant Curator of Roman Coins Lucia Carbone gave a presentation at the University of Virginia titled “Financing Sulla’s reconquest of Italy,” where she discussed the sources of funding of Sulla’s army, based on recent data provided by RRDP and her monograph on late cistophori. Lucia Carbone welcomed Brooklyn College students
On November 15, Assistant Curator of Roman Coins Lucia Carbone welcomed Professor Liv Yarrow’s students from Brooklyn College and presented an overview of the historical development of Roman Republican Coinage, with a special focus on the contribution provided by RRDP.
