Long Table 182. The Roman World in Tokens

Friday, May 10, 2024
1:00 PM ET

Human societies have used tokens for thousands of years, and the Roman world was no different. Tokens made of bronze, brass, and lead were created by a variety of different groups and individuals – men and women, professional organizations, cultic groups, and the imperial family. These images on Roman tokens show a world of joy, celebration, creativity, and community, and provide a unique glimpse into the worlds of those living in the Roman Empire. Clare Rowan (The University of Warwick) will explore the stories that Roman tokens can tell us.

ANS Members will receive the meeting link on the morning of the talk. More on Long Tables.
