Friday, November 10, 2023
1:00 PM ET

Every major coin collection possesses a collection of forgeries. Bernhard Weisser (Münzkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) will present the coin dies of the renowned German coin forger Carl Wilhelm Becker (1872–1830), which were transferred to the Münzkabinett in 1911. Only this year, additional archival materials, such as Becker’s diaries from his final years, were acquired. Prof. Dr. Weisser will use the case of Becker to explain why museums collect forgeries.
