45. The J. Sanford Saltus Medal, awarded annually by the National Academy of Design for meritorious works of art.

John Sanford Saltus (1853-1922) was a patron of the arts who founded several art prizes. In addition to this one in 1908, he created one for the École des Beaux Arts in 1910 and another for the Art Students’ League. An active numismatist, amateur artist, and member of the ANS he also founded the Saltus Award for the American Numismatic Society in 1913.
