2024 Mid-Year Appeal

Dear Friend,

When the ANS first started to digitize its preeminent collection in the 1980s, we were the first to undertake such an important endeavor. Any user can now browse through our entire collection on the MANTIS platform for personal research and to use images freely for non-commercial publications.

As significant as our progress has been, out of more than 600,000 objects in the collection only about a third have been photographed to date. More than 7,000 images were added last year, and thanks to recent improvements to our database management systems, we aim to add more than 15,000 new images per year going forward. You can support this long-term project and other ANS programs by donating to the 2024 Mid-Year Appeal. Photographing a single coin costs about $10: how many new photographs can you support with your gift? Your contribution will also bolster other projects, such as cataloging hundreds of new books in the renowned Harry W. Bass Jr. Library, all available to the public via the DONUM website.

Every dollar—or $10 bill—will advance our digitization efforts. Alternatively, a gift of $500 covers the cost of hosting a school visit to the ANS, $1,000 pays for our web servers for a month, and $10,000 funds our library purchasing budget for an entire year. All gifts, of any amount, are welcome and will contribute to enabling our mission.

Thank you for your generous support of the ANS.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gilles Bransbourg
Executive Director
