U.S. Coin Glass Glassware – Covered candy dish
This covered candy dish with numismatic elements was designed in 1891 from a pattern coin by George Hipkins. Along with this one, the Central Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia, produced an additional 92 unique pieces of U.S. Coin glass which were manufactured for less than eight months. An agent of the U.S. Treasury Department halted production with the claim that any “reproduction of U.S. coinage in any form constituted counterfeiting.” All inventories and molds were ordered to be destroyed.
