Education

Education is an important part of the ANS mission. We make it a priority to make numismatics accessible to people at all levels of education.

Eric P. Newman Graduate Summer Seminar

For over sixty years the ANS has offered select graduate students and junior faculty the opportunity to work hands-on with one of the world‘s preeminent numismatic collections. The seminar is meant to familiarize students of art history, textual studies, and archaeology with a body of evidence that is often overlooked and poorly understood.

ANS Lyceum

Since 2021, we have offered the ANS Lyceum to ANS members and the public at large. These online courses offer participants the opportunity to engage in interactive lectures and discussion sessions with ANS curators and staff. The ANS Lyceum is open to all with no prior knowledge of numismatics or history required or expected.

School Visits

We welcome school groups of all ages to our headquarters in New York City to learn about different topics from our curators and to handle numismatic objects.

To schedule a school group appointment, please call 212.571.4470, ext. 117.

The Collection on Display

The ANS participates in traveling exhibitions in the United States and around the world. Making our extensive collection available means people can be exposed to numismatics far away from New York City.

Lectures

The ANS offers weekly members-only Long Table discussions every Friday 1:00 PM. Once a month, we host hybrid Money Talks lecture that offers a hands-on experience where attendees will view relevant coins, banknotes, and medals while learning about the broader world of numismatics. Not mention conferences, annual lectures, and guest speakers!
