Long Table 184. Coins in Context: Provenance and the Study of Coinage

Friday, May 24, 2024
1:00 PM ET

Evidence of where and when a coin was moved—or not—enhances its study. It can help to answer questions regarding the identification of a site, the range of visitors to a sanctuary, or the existence of a foreign garrison in a city, and it contributes to our understanding of the function of certain coinages. Sophia Kremydi (Institute of Historical Studies. National Hellenic Research Foundation) will discuss how this information benefits numismatic study, especially of silver issues found in foreign lands.

ANS Members will receive the meeting link on the morning of the talk. More on Long Tables.
