Support the Library

Support the most extensive numismatic Library in the U.S.

There are many ways to be involved in supporting the ANS Library. Cash and book donations are always gratefully accepted, but there are ways that donors can also become more specifically involved in shaping the future of the library. A list of those opportunities follows here. To participate, please contact library staff by phone, mail, fax, or email. You can also click the yellow “Donate” button for direct payment. Please indicate in the payment notes the details of your donation.

Library donor wall

Any gift of $10,000 or more will result in a custom-made plaque with the donor’s name added to the donor wall in the main reading room. Please note: This is for cash donations to the library only and does not include membership fees, book donations, or gifts sent for other purposes within the ANS.

Cataloger Funding

The job of the library cataloger is extremely important. Currently a part-time cataloger works to keep up with the many books, auction catalogs, and periodicals that arrive daily into the library. Because the ANS Library online catalog goes beyond regular library catalogs to include the records of articles and paper proceedings, the duties of the cataloger are essential to the life of the library.

Suggested donation range: $200 will fund a day of work, while $2,000 will fund a month.

Rare Book Cataloger Funding:

The ANS Library contains thousands of important rare materials. Many of the catalog entries for these items either contain only the most basic information or none at all. For this reason it is important to work on expanding the presence of the rare books within the online database. Because of the added work required to catalog rare books, the cost is slightly more than that for general cataloging.

Suggested donation range: $15 per book. This will include a line in the online catalog indicating the donor’s name if desired.

Adopt-a-Book

Adopt a book to preserve it! This can take a variety of forms, including giving funds for supplies or supporting the re-housing and / or conservation of specific items. Because of the large number of books that require attention and the very limited library staff, we are unable to produce a list of specific books. If you are interested, please contact the librarian and provide the subject area you are interested in funding and the amount you are willing to donate. The librarian will respond with a handful of options that might be of interest.

Suggested donation range: Varies. Starting at $100. The record of the book in the online catalog will bear the name of the donor responsible for preservation and a small bookplate will also bear this information within the item itself.

Shelf naming

$1,000 per shelf (so if you are interested in a section that currently covers 4 shelves, the cost to name this section would be $4,000).

Book donations requested

The library is always happy to receive gifts of new publications to help expand our collections. All donations will be acknowledged and the donor’s name may be mentioned during reports of the ANS Annual Meeting in October as well as appearing in the Annual Report.
