Publications

The ANS has an active publication program that began in 1866 with the first numismatic journal in the United States and continues today with a variety of publications on all aspects of numismatics. Read more about the history of ANS Publishing.

The scope of our publications includes books, conference papers, journals, and a magazine, all advancing the state of the field in numismatic research, making the latest findings widely accessible to the numismatic community, and introducing numismatics to a broader public.

ebooks

The ANS currently publishes ebooks alongside its printed volumes. Our entire backlist will be available as Open Access, free to download and use from the American Council of Learned Societies soon.

Libraries and their guests can read the ANS’s entire catalogue of publications through the EBSCO Host service. Consult your librarian to see if they subscribe to the platform.

The ANS’s backlist as well as unpublished numismatic theses and dissertations are available for free through the ANS’s Digital Library.

Print on Demand

To provide readers with printed copies of the ANS’s officially licensed backlist, the ANS has partnered with Ingram Spark to rescue these older, out-of-print titles through print-on-demand. Provided at cost, these books are intended to be affordable, fast, and quality paperback publications. Readers will no longer need to purchase bootleg copies of ANS monographs, nor will they need to pay high prices for popular, out-of-print volumes.
