Forrest (1821-1877) was a master of mobile warfare, the accused author of the Fort Pillow massacre of Union prisoners, black and Southern whites alike after their surrender. If not the actual founder, then he was a very early leader (Grand Wizard) of the Ku Klux Klan (founded Pulaski, TN, 1866).
