Description
American Civil War U.S. Army Medal of Honor, type 2; authorized in 1865. This specimen was awarded in 1898 to Captain Thorn
of 116th USCT for action in the Civil War: at Dutch Gap Canal, VA in January of 1865, Thorn returned to and climbed up a waterfront
retaining wall that had been mined for demolition, after the fuse was lit, to warn a picket guard who had not been recalled
from the danger area, thereby saving his live at the risk to his own.
