Horace Havemeyer (1914-1990) of Dix Hills, New York, was born in Islip, New York, and graduated from Yale University in 1936.

Horace Havemeyer (1914-1990) of Dix Hills, New York, was born in Islip, New York, and graduated from Yale University in 1936. From 1948 to 1968 he was president of National Sugar, and represented the fifth generation of his family to work in the sugar business. He was a board member of the New York Trust Company, Huntington Hospital, and Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and was a director of Amalgamated Sugar of Ogden, Utah. Horace’s grandfather, Henry (Harry) Osborne Havemeyer, and his wife amassed a notable collection of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, and other items, including coins.
