FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY

The American Numismatic Society (ANS) is pleased to announce that @anscoins, the Society’s Twitter account, now has over 5,000 followers. In keeping with the mission of the ANS to promote and advance the study, research, and appreciation of numismatics, this milestone bodes well for our increased communication on social media platforms.

@anscoins is frequently updated with a variety of numismatic posts, including Society program updates and accomplishments, new publications, lectures and events, and items from the ANS’s regularly updated, award-winning blog Pocket Change (numismatics.org/pocketchange). Twiter is a significant part of the ANS’s social media suite, which includes Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Pinterest, and Instagram.

The Society’s continual progress on the digital front also includes making our collections—numismatic items from the vault as well as the Harry W. Bass Library—online for the interested public, researchers and scholars. Current projects include converting monographs (pre-2010) into ebooks, a new “Identify a Coin” feature to the Online Coins of the Roman Empire database, and creating a new portal for Hellenistic royal coinages, all of which enable the opportunity for greater research and understanding of numismatics in the wider world.

The American Numismatic Society (http://www.numismatics.org), organized in 1858 and incorporated in 1865 in New York State, operates as a research museum under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is recognized as a publicly supported organization under section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) as confirmed on November 1, 1970.
