Join ANS Fellow and Roman specialist Ben Lee Damsky for a look into Pompey’s anti-Caesar propaganda. This denarius was struck by one of Pompey’s generals at a military field mint in Greece as Pompey’s forces organized and positioned prior to the Battle of Pharsalus with Caesar. Crawford offered no explanation of the significance of the design, but we will understand it is an interesting piece of propaganda when we delve into related coins featuring King Numa Pompilius and revisit the history of the First Triumvirate.
