Long Table 121. Today’s Art Medal—From Decoration to Handheld Sculpture

Friday, January 6
1:00 PM ET

ANS Fellow Donald Scarinci will present on the development of the contemporary art medal, focusing his discussion from the end of World War II to today. By placing the contemporary art medal in its historical context, he will offer suggestions about how these medals may be appreciated as handheld works of art. Through the descriptive interpretations of the medals presented, one might gain a greater understanding of the contemporary art medal and how it is more closely related to sculpture than to more traditional areas of numismatics.
