Library Catalog Naming Contest -- Winner!

ANS Library Catalog Naming Contest — Winner decided April 19, 2010!

Thank you to all who entered!

And the winner is… Andrew G. Scott!

The winner of the Library Catalog Naming Contest has been decided! The chosen submission was given by Andrew G. Scott, was an Assistant Professor of Classics at Hendrix College in Arizona is now an Assistant Professor, Classical Studies at Villanova University. Andrew was a recent participant in the Eric P. Newman Graduate Summer Seminar in Numismatics during 2009. Well done, Andrew! And thank you again to all who entered. We had some fantastic entries overall!

The new catalog will be called DONUM. This is short for Database of NUmismatic Materials. The word “donum” is also Latin for “gift,” and as a free resource, this online catalog is our gift to the world. The new online catalog is still very much being developed and we thank you in advance for your patience. The catalog is now on-line. While the new catalog has been updated to contain even the most recently cataloged items, we are still working out a number of technical issues associated with making searches more efficient. Updates about this ongoing progress will be forthcoming.

In 2010, the ANS Library will launch a new and improved library catalog. This catalog needed a name. I asked for the creative minds of the numismatic community to help with this, which resulted in a contest for the best name of our new catalog. The winner was chosen from among 60 entries and won a $100 ANS gift certificate, which can be used for a wide variety of ANS purchases, including publications, library services, membership, and more!
