Hahlo-94-95, Mrs. Katrina Trask plaquette

American Numismatic Society, 1987.147.62 and 1987.147.61.

94. Mrs. Katrina Trask.

95. Reverse of Mrs. Katrina Trask Plaquette.

Writer and poet, Kate Nichols (1853-1922) was married to Spencer Trask (see #s 5, 11, 111, and 112). Their tree-filled estate in Saratoga Springs was called “Yaddo” after their daughter’s pronunciation of the word “Shadow.” None of their children survived into adulthood and following Spencer’s death, two years after Brenner completed their 1907 portraits, she developed Yaddo into an artist’s community. It is still in operation today. The reverse is the same on both Trask plaquettes and it is not clear what differentiated the two examples shown in this exhibition.
