Hahlo-48, Charles P. Daly medal

American Numismatic Society, 1987.147.40.

48. The George [sic] P. Daly medal, instituted by the American Geographical Society, New York.

Charles Patrick Daly (1816-1899) was president of the American Geographical Society from 1864 to 1899. In 1902 the Society began awarding periodic medals in his name for distinguished work in geographical pursuits—the first awardee was Robert E. Peary. Brenner’s design for the medal was used through 1922. It was redesigned by Brenda Putnam after the original dies broke.
