2021 Annual Gala
Join us for our 2021 Gala! The ANS Annual Gala honoring Lottie and Mark Salton will be held virtually on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Join for pre-program “Cabinet Conversations” at 12:30 and for the Gala program at 1PM ET. The event will feature keynote speaker Jacob Goldstein, NPR correspondent and author of the new book,MONEY: The True Story of a Made-Up Thing. Patrons, Sponsors, and Individual Supporters of the Gala will receive raffle tickets and a limited edition pin designed by Saltus Award winner João Duarte. ANS Awarded NEH Grant
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded the Society a $150,000 grant for the two-year joint ANS-Oxford University OXUS-INDUS project. The international award will allow the project team from the institutions in the US, UK, Germany, and Pakistan to further research aspects of Graeco-Bactrian and Indo-Greek coinages. November Long Tables & Money Talks
This month’s Long Table discussions included: “The G. N. Olcott Collection” with Dr. Lucia Carbone, “Connections, Community & Coinage” with numismatists George Watson and Bernhard Woytek, and “The Numismatic Collection in the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan” with Dr. Irene Soto Marín. ANS Curator Emeritus Michael Bates delivered a Money Talks lecture, “The Silver Coinage of Iran Under its Early Muslim Governors, 651-705”.
