About BIGR

Coins of the Bactrian and Indo-Greek Rulers (BIGR) is a component project of the larger Hellenistic Royal Coinages (HRC) project directed by Peter van Alfen and Ethan Gruber based at the American Numismatic Society. BIGR has been developed by Gunnar Dumke, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, and Simon Glenn, Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, while the web database, based on the Numishare platform, has been developed by Ethan Gruber, who also oversaw the creation of the necessary Nomisma.org concepts for the project. The project to create BIGR, OXUS-INDUS, is directed by Andrew Meadows and Peter van Alfen.

Emma Pratte and Alan Roche are responsible for the photographs of ANS coins. Jessica Schellig, Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster, was instrumental in cataloging the ANS collection and the collection at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Simon Glenn catalogued the collection at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, the British Museum, London, and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Gunnar Dumke catalogued the collection at the Münzkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. We should like to thank the following curators at these institutions: Julien Olivier, Shailendra Bhandare, Vesta Curtis, Helen Wang, Adrian Popescu, Martin Allen, Bernhard Weisser, and Karsten Dahmen. The BIGR banner image was created by ANS photographer, Alan Roche.

Lauren Tomanelli drew the monograms, and Ethan Gruber organized and integrated them into the BIGR type records.

Dr. Stefan Baums, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, was immensely helpful in all questions regarding Kharoṣṭhī.
