David Yoon To Give Presentation in DC
On April 12, 2018, Associate Curator David Yoon will be presenting a poster at the Society for American Archaeology meeting in Washington, DC. The presentation is entitled “Long-Distance Trade in Late Antique Italy: Evidence from the Bova Marina Archaeological Project”.

The History of Egyptian Coinage
The History of Egyptian Coinage and Beyond Conference was organized by Thomas Faucher—the 2017 visiting scholar for the Eric P. Newman Graduate Summer Seminar—and Naglaa Ezzat of Ain Shams University. Familiar ANS faces included Chief Curator Peter van Alfen; Trustee, Andrew Meadows; and Second Vice President, Andrew Burnett. David Hendin at the Ha’aretz Museum
On March 12, First Vice-President of the ANS David Hendin gave a talk entitled “Hasmonean Coins: Thoughts, Questions, Research” to the Israel Numismatic Society at the Ha’aretz Museum, Kadman Numismatic Pavilion in Tel Aviv. He also presented the Shekel Prize given by AINA (American Israel Numismatic Association) to Dr. Yoav Farhi for his book on the coinage found at Khirbet Qeiyafa.
Computer Applications in Archaeology Conference
ANS Director of Data Science, Ethan Gruber, presented “Numismatic Reconciliation APIs for OpenRefine” at the Computer Applications in Archaeology Conference held in Tübingen, Germany. The paper presents an overview on new web services built into Nomisma.org and online type corpora, such as Online Coins of the Roman Empire, that enable fast clean-up of large datasets. These APIs were used to integrate more than 2,000 Roman Imperial coins from the University of Graz into OCRE in just a few minutes of labor. More…
