Vivek Gupta was appointed Assistant Curator/Fellow for Islamic and South Asian Coins in June 2016 for the academic year before completing his doctorate degree. During the course of this appointment, Mr. Gupta will oversee the efforts to further digitize the Islamic and South Asia coinages in the collection, a task that includes significant clean-up of the data presented in MANTIS and adding more information to our online resources. His research bridges Islamic and Indian archives as well as visual and literary cultures across time periods. Mr. Gupta is experienced in Arabic, Persian, and Hindi paleography and epigraphy and reads Sanskrit. He holds a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis in Arabic and Comparative Literature and graduate degrees (M.A. and M.Phil.) from Columbia University and has served in positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Freer and Sackler Galleries of the Smithsonian Institution.
