Assembled over the course of 20 years, the Norman Davis Collection comprises examples of the major coinages of the Greek world. It is noteworthy not only for the consistently high standard of style and condition, but also for special series and individual rarities. Th Seleucid and Indo-Greek sequences are particularly impressive and any museum would be proud to possess unique specimens like the state of Melos, the tetradrachm of Heliocles of Bactria, and the tetradrachm of Ptolemy IV.
The publication conforms to the general format of the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum fascicules in placing emphasis on the reproduction of the coins and limiting the text to basic numismatic data. References and dates are given only when there has been a thorough mint study of a particular coinage. All weights are in grams and all coins are silver unless otherwise indicated.
