A plate said to be for the original 42 shilling note face was found in Montrose, Scotland, in 1868, and placed in the collection
of the Museum of the Montrose Narural History and Antiquarian Society, as noted by Brigham and reported by Newman; the American
Antiquarian Society has an impression of it. The genuine plates for these series were engraved by Paul Revere. The original
face plate for the lower eight denominations survives in the Massachusetts Archives, as reported by Brigham and by Newman.
Newman notes counterfeits known of the 36- and 42- shilling denomination issues.
