Letter accompanying coin: "1 copper medal found in the city of Syracuse by a person making a garden. This medal was ploughed up from the soil two feet below the surface. The location has until very few years been a low swamp. This medal is supposed to be one of the medals presented by Father Hennepin, to the Onondaga Tribe of Indians. Presented to the N.Y. Historical Soc. by Wm. W Willard and I, Dean Hawly Syracuse, N.Y."
