Obverse: THE/ NEW THEATER; in ex., PRESENTED BY THE FOUNDERS TO/ WINTHROP AMES/ NOVEMBER/ 1909 - Elaborate stage set, with columns, platform with steps at center stage, on which stands a draped figure above another lying on steps, crowd of figures with polearms on l.; a loop draws back a curtain on r. revealing legs of figures leaving stage; border of leaves, stars and stage props.
Note: Found in vault in cigar box marked in crayon "Gutzon Borglum wax impressions from Mr. Huntington." Theater closed down after only 2 seasons. This medal was presumably part of the Theater's first anniversary celebration.
