George B. Mason was a coin and stamp dealer located in Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y. in the 1860s and later in lower Manhattan.
The letters deal with a variety of subjects including requests for store cards, price lists, want lists, US stamps, coin catalogs, and offers to purchase coins. Of the 92 letters in the collection, many were from some of the more prominent numismatists of the era, including officers and members of American Numismatic Society.
