Scope and Content Note

Three copies of the Examiner (vol. 84, no. 18, May 3, 1906), a weekly Baptist newspaper, published at 38 Park Row, New York City. The issue contains an article about the ANS’s prospective new building to be erected in Audubon Park along West 156th Street in New York City, adjacent to the larger Hispanic Society of America building, both buildings designed by the same architect, Charles P. Huntington. Provides a short history of the ANS and a brief description of its holdings. The newspaper also contains a short eyewitness account of the San Francisco earthquake, written on April 24, 1906, just five days after the disaster. Of interest are the newspaper’s many advertisements for cure-all remedies.
