ANS in Greece

On 23-24 May 2014, ANS Deputy Director Andrew Meadows and Adjunct Curator Oliver Hoover will deliver papers at a conference entitled Les alexandres après Alexandre: histoire d'une monnaie commune to be held at the Ecole française d'Athènes. The respective titles of their papers are, "Invasion and Transformation. The development of the civic Alexander coinage in Western Asia Minor, c. 323 to 223 BC" and "A Necessary Evil: Alexandrine Coinages and the Tension of Personal Kingship in the Seleucid Empire."

OCRE Update

Recently Online Coins of the Roman Empire (OCRE) was updated to include all coin types through Elagabalus (terminating in A.D. 222). These and more than 11,000 Roman imperial coins from the British Museum are now accessible here.

NEH Grant for OCRE in the News

An article on the recent $300,000 grant from National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for the OCRE project appeared in the May 1 edition of the Coins Weekly newsletter. The full text can be found here.

New ANS Publication

The ANS is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of

The Island Standard: The Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman Coinages of Paros by John A N Z Tully.

This book is the first comprehensive study of the monetary history of one of the major coin-producing states of the Hellenistic and Roman Aegean. It analyzes the Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman coinages of the Cycladic island of Paros.
