Happy New Year

Thank you to everyone who has helped us during 2011. It is with the support from our members and friends that we are able to continue to provide excellence in numismatic research, to continue to build our collections, and to make numismatics more accessible to more people throughout the globe. 2012 Gala Thanks

Thank you to all who participated in the 2012 American Numismatic Society Gala in honor of Harlan J. Berk and Frederic G. Withington. The 2012 Gala was a great success, raising nearly $150,000 for the Society. None of this would be possible without our generous sponsors, contributors, auction donors, advertisers, attendees and other supporters. Visit the Gala Page for details.

Membership Renewal

Please renew your membership dues for 2012. You can renew online or download a mail-in form on the Membership Page. Benefits include the award-winning ANS Magazine (now quarterly), 30% off all publications, discounts on library and research fees, invitations to lectures and events, and much more. The Society relies on your membership dues and contributions to improve upon programs and further our mission. Thank you for your continued membership.

Cultural Change Exhibit Closing

The Cultural Change: Coins of the Holy Land featuring coins from the Abraham D. & Marian Scheuer Sofaer Collection exhibit at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will close on Friday, February 3, 2012. The accompanying exhibit catalog is still available for purchase through our Online Store.

A new ANS exhibit Signs of Inflation will open in March. The exhibition will investigate the historical perspectives and concepts of inflation as revealed through coins and other objects. Visit our Exhibits Page for updates.

2012 Stephen K. Scher Lecture

On Thursday, February 2, 2012 the ANS is pleased to hold the Stephen K. Scher Lecture with speaker Andrea Bayer, Associate Curator in the Department of European Paintings at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dr. Bayer will present Exploring the Renaissance Portrait from Donatello to Bellini.

ANS Adjunct Curator in Cincinnati, OH

On Monday, February 6, 2012, ANS Adjunct Curator, Oliver Hoover, will present a lecture on the coinage of Hellenistic Syria and the Southern Levant in the Classics Department of the University of Cincinnati.

ANS Curator in Tulsa, OK

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, ANS Curator of North American Coins & Currency, Mr. Robert Hoge, will present a lecture entitled Last of the Indian Peace Medals at the Gilcrease Museum, University of Tulsa 1400 Gilcrease Museum Road Tulsa, Oklahoma. 2011 Huntington Medal Award

The ANS is pleased to announce Dr. Richard G. Doty as the recipient of the 2011 Huntington Medal Award. The award is conferred annually in honor of the late Archer M. Huntington in recognition of outstanding career contributions to numismatic scholarship. Dr. Doty is Curator of the National Numismatic Collection at the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution.

The Huntington Medal Award Ceremony and Silvia Mani Hurter Memorial Lecture will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012.

2012 E.P. Newman Graduate Seminar - Deadline Approaching

Applications for the 2012 Eric P. Newman Graduate Seminar in Numismatics are due no later than February 10, 2012. A limited number of stipends of up to $4000 are available to US and Canadian citizens, and non-US citizens studying at US institutions under J-1 visas.
