New ANS Exhibit Opening in March

A new ANS exhibit will open March 30th at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. "Signs of Inflation" will investigate the historical perspectives and concepts of inflation as revealed through coins and other objects. Items included will range from the Roman silver coins decreasing size, weight and metal quality during the 4th century AD to the 20th century, where numerous inflation situations occurred across international monitory systems, including the Weimar Republic and the Republic of Yugoslavia’s last years of existence. Visitors will be invited to travel through time and consider similar phenomena as well as challenge the commonly held view that the economy of today is inherently different from that of the past. The exhibit will encourage us to explore the concept of purchasing power through the different monetary mediums available to human societies since the creation of money as a value bearing object.
