2012 ANS Gala - Contributors Needed

The American Numismatic Society is pleased to announce the honorees for the 2012 Dinner Gala. The recipient of the Trustees’ Award is Harlan J. Berk. The recipient of the inaugural Distinguished Service Award is Frederic G. Withington. Mr. Berk and Mr. Withington will be honored on Thursday, January 5th, 2012 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.

Krause-Mishler Forum

154th Annual Meeting

The ANS 154th Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at 3:00pm. In addition to remarks and presentations by Officers and staff, election of Trustees and a sale of duplicate items from the ANS Library will take place. A reception will follow.

Hendin Lecture

On Wedesday, November 9, 2011, ANS Adjunct Curator David Hendin will present "Shekel for your Thoughts - Ancient Coins of the Holy Land". Mr. Hendin is a specialist in weights and currency of the ancient Levant, especially Judaean and biblical, Toman provincial, and Nabataean coins. and author of the newly released Cultural Change: Jewish, Christian and Islamic Coins of the Holy Land. Heritage Lecture Series: Colonial Coins

On Tuesday, November 15th, the ANS is pleased to host the first in a series of lectures in conjunction with Heritage Galleries. This event, focusing on U.S. Colonial coins, will feature lectures by Christopher J. Salmon, author of Silver Coins of Massachusetts (2011) and Mark Borckardt, senior cataloger of U.S. coins at Heritage Auctions. Details here. ANS at C4 Convention

ANS Curator of North American Coins and Currency, Robert Wilson Hoge, to attend annual C4 Convention at the Bay State Coin Show, Boston, MA. Be sure to check out the ANS exhibit of counterfeit coins at the show. Details here.

2012 Augustus B. Sage Society Trip

Next year's Sage Society trip will offer the chance to visit some of the great archaeological sites and Museums of Israel and Jordan. Highlights will include visits to Jerusalem, Masada, the Dead Sea and Petra. The trip will take place in the early Spring of 2012 and will led by one of the foremost experts on the coinage of Holy Land, ANS Adjunct Curator David Hendin. Sage Society Dinner & Lecture

Sage Society members and ANS Board members are cordially invited to attend a Sage dinner and lecture on Friday, October 21st, 2011 at 7:30pm. ANS Trustee Prof. Jere Bacharach will present a lecture entitled "Restoring Egypt's cultural heritage - the American role". Tickets are $120 per person. ANS EADitor included in Society of American Archivists' Description Expo 2011

The American Numismatic Society is pleased to announce that EADitor, the open-source collection management and web publication system created by ANS web and database developer Ethan Gruber, has been selected for inclusion in the Society of American Archivists’ Description Expo 2011. Wall Street Bourse

The Wall Street Bourse, which will be run by an independent numismatic group, will be held at the Museum of American Finance from 10 am – 4 pm on Friday, October 21, and Saturday, October 22. Coins, currency, bank notes, stock certificates, medals, tokens and other ephemera related to money and its history will be displayed for sale by 20 dealers. Admission to the Museum and the Bourse will be free. Details here
