Saltus Award and Scher Lecture

On February 12, 2009, the 2009 J. Sanford Saltus Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Art of the Medal will be presented to British medalist Ron Dutton. Denise Allen, Curator at the Frick Collection, will give the Stephen K. Scher Lecture entitled “Ancient Coins and the Sculpture of Andrea Riccio”.

An exhibition of 2009 J. Sanford Saltus award recipient Ron Dutton’s medallic work and medals from the British Art Medal Society will be on display in the new ANS gallery from 12 February to late summer 2009. For more information about visiting the ANS see


On February 25, 2009 Dr.Fernando López Sánchez will present a lecture entitled “The Mamertines and the Second Punic War". Dr. Sánchez is a full-time researcher (Ramón y Cajal) at the Universidad Jaume I in Castellón (Spain), and fellow of Wolfson College in Oxford.
