Hoshino, Asao. Old Coins of the World. Numbered limited edition miniature book (no. 188 of 300). 192 pages, 20mm x 20 mm. Japan: s.n., 1977.
Gift: Rick Witschonke

Example of interior image (not to scale):

The smallest example of numismatic literature in the ANS Library collections, this miniature book includes images and limited text in Japanese and English of a variety of examples of (as the title suggests) old coins of the world. The 18k gold plate on the cover is stamped with the copy number. Hoshino works from his own studio in Tokyo and has produced more than a dozen miniature books, which he regards as handicraft art objects. In 1981 he set the record for smallest book in the world with his 20-page book “Ants,” which measured a mere 1.4 millimeter square (smaller than the head of a match!). The record has since been broken.
