Biographical note
Harold W. Glidden (d. 1990?) was a collector of Greek, Roman, ancient Near Eastern, Islamic, Indian, and ancient Central Asian coins, coin weights, and measuring vessel stamps who worked for the U.S. State Department, serving as chief of the Near East Division of the Office of Research and Analysis for the Near East and South Asia Bureau of Intelligence and Research. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1937 and went on to serve as a member of the American Oriental Society in Philadelphia and on the board of editorial advisors of the Middle East Journal.

Collection
Consists of a card index inventory of Glidden’s collection of coins that were bequeathed to the American Numismatic Society (ANS) in 1990. Cards contain information on period, name of ruler, date, mint, provenance, material, and size. Further information can be found on empty coin sleeves stapled to each card. There are ANS accession numbers on each card corresponding to coins accessioned with the cards in 1991.
