Biographical note
George W. Cogan of Brooklyn, New York, cataloged and administered bids for coin auctions held by Bangs & Co. during the 1880s. He was the son of pioneering coin dealer and cataloger Edward D. Cogan (1803-1884).

Scrapbook containing bids submitted to Cogan and invoices from New York City coin dealers Bangs & Co. and Geo. A. Leavitt & Co. Bidders include C.P. Nichols of Merchants Despatch Transportation Company (Springfield, Massachusetts), F. Merritt Alden (Springfield, Massachusetts), R.B. Winsor of Winsor & Brown Lumber Merchants (Providence, Rhode Island), the Hughes Brothers Steam Printing Works (Cincinnati), and Andrew Zabriskie (New York City).
