Sylvia Karges, Curatorial Assistant

With a background in contemporary history and art, Sylvia Karges’s work at the ANS has focused primarily on post-Renaissance material. As a Curatorial Assistant, she has been instrumental in researching, organizing and continuing the cataloguing of the collection of Crowns and Talers, Jetons, Meissen Porcelain coins and medals, as well as German emergency notes of the 20th century. As the primary cataloguer of new acquistions for the Curatorial Department, she has extended her expertise to a wide variety of numismatic items from across the globe and across all time periods. Additionally, she is activley involved in the ANS’s exhibition work.

Sylvia is currently completing her doctoral thesis on the history of anti-Semitism, in which numismatic source material plays an important role . In 2010, she was invited to speak at CUNY’s Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives on the topic of numismatic evidence of the Holocaust.
